In a recent poll, the majority of Canadians said that they see gambling as a fun and acceptable form of entertainment. The poll was carried out by PMG Consulting of Waterloo and also showed that most Canadian players are responsible gamblers who abide by a fixed budget.
Not many Canadians know that Canada is one of the countries that spend more money per capita on responsible gambling studies and treatment. Bill Rutsey, Canadian Gaming Association President and CEO, said that this research shows the lack of public knowledge of the constant efforts made by the industry towards responsible gaming.
"The PMG poll highlights that few Canadians are aware that the Canadian gaming industry contributes $7 billion to governments and charities and invests about $75 million annually on responsible gaming research and treatment - more per capita than any other country," Mr. Rutsey added.
The gaming industry in Canada generates $14 billion in profits per year and provides jobs for more than 50,000 workers in the country. This survey is part of a research that is being carried out by the industry to understand the attitudes of Canadians towards gaming.
